When and where is the event?

The event will take place in Newfarm Park, at the New Farm Park River Hub on Sunday, 14th June 2020. The event kicks off from 8.00am, concluding with the presentation ceremony at 3.00pm.

How do I register a team and how many people are on each team?

Appoint a team captain who will register your team via the Team Registration Form. Each team consists of 20 people, including one team captain. Your team will be allocated an additional two members from Dragon Boat Queensland who are professional steerers and drummers, which will make the total number of people in your team boat 22.

How does the event day regatta work?

Each team will participate in 2 heats. Each heat will consist of 4 teams. Teams are allocated points according to their place in each race e.g. 4 = first; 3 = second; 2 = third; 1 = fourth. The four teams with the highest points will take part in the final.

What is the entry cost?

To participate in Paddle for Kids 2019 each team is required to fundraise a minimum of $3,000. 

What’s included in my team’s entry?

Included in your team’s entry is a team training day with Dragon Boat Queensland’s experienced representatives, a Dragon Boat paddling experience like no other, plus an allocated undercover secure area for your team on the event day. And on top of all that, you'll be making a huge contribution towards helping Juiced TV connect sick kids across Australia. 

How do I set up a fundraising page?

Once your team captain has registered your team, you will be provided with a link to the team’s fundraising page. Your captain will send you a link to join your team’s fundraising page, which will create your own individual fundraising page and total within your team page. Make sure you share the page link with your family, friends and colleagues to help Juiced TV's Paddle for Kids make the biggest impact on the lives of sick kids (and to be the top fundraiser in your team)!

How does my team learn to Dragon Boat race and how can I train?

There is no prior experience required to register or join a team for Paddle for Kids. For the safety and enjoyment of all participants, each team is required to attend one training day. The dates of these training days will be confirmed towards the end of March. The training day will teach you how to safely paddle in a dragon boat as well as training tips to get you ready for the big day.

When and where is the Dragon Boat training?

The Dragon Boat training dates and locations are to be confirmed.

Please note, your team will need to attend one of the training days in order to compete on event day. Prior to event day, all participants of Paddle for Kids must also confirm that they have viewed the Paddle for Kids safety training video. If you have any questions, please just let us know!

How do I view the safety training video and why is it necessary?

The safety training video link will be emailed to each registered participant. The purpose of the training is to ensure you are aware of all the safety requirements for Dragon Boating to make the event day as fun and safe as it can be!

What do I need to do before event day?

  1. Register as a team captain or an individual joining a team.
  2. If you are team captain, set-up your team’s fundraising page.
  3. Attend one training day.
  4. View the safety video.
  5. Encourage your friends and family to donate to your team and come along on Sunday, 14th June to cheer you on!

Where is the Dragon Boat regatta start line and what is the race distance?

The start line is located alongside the New Farm Park River Hub, situated approximately 50 metres from the Brisbane Powerhouse. The distance of the regatta is around 200 metres.

What should I wear on event day?

We love team spirit and encourage all teams to come dressed in costume or uniform, that’s comfortable for you to paddle in. Please be mindful of anything that may restrict your paddling or pose a safety risk whilst racing. Closed in shoes must be worn. Remember to wear a hat, sunscreen, and bring along plenty of water.

Where can I store my personal items on the event day?

Your team will be allocated an undercover area where you can store your items while your team compete in your heats. Please note that the event organisers do not take responsibility for lost or stolen items, so please be sure you keep your valuables safe and secured. 

What if I feel unwell or can no longer attend the event day?

Please contact your team captain. Your team captain will then inform the event officials and make sure your team still has the minimum number of team members.

What if I need medical assistance?

There will be a First Aid tent for any medical related matters throughout the day.

How do I get to the event and is parking available?

New Farm Park is a five-minute drive from the Brisbane CBD, 10 minutes on the number 196 bus or 15 minutes by CityCat. We recommend using public transport to get to the event. Car parking is available in the surrounding areas of the park. Please be sure you abide by the local parking restrictions. To learn more about New Farm Park and the facilities available, click here
