CONGRATULATIONS TO JILL SHERGOLD, SUPER HERO AWARDS WINNER!

Nurse Practitioner tickled pink with recognition.

Megan was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, but she needed a treatment that required a specialist to coordinate a stem cell transplant. This is where Jill stepped in.

As a Bone Marrow Nurse Practitioner in Training, Jill not only brought her expertise to Megan’s case, but her time. Seeing an opportunity to recognise this care, Megan and her family nominated Jill in the QSuper sponsored Juiced TV Super Hero Awards.

“I know they are the hospital staff, but they are our hospital family. They really are there for us in the darkest times,” Megan’s mother, Trina, said.

“Jill is a busy woman, but when we need her, she takes the time to explain everything and answer any questions we have.”

Constantly in and out of hospital, Megan documented her journey online as a way of sharing her experiences with her friends, family and other people going through a similar journey.

“What struck me about Megan was even when she was her sickest, she was trying to do things for other people,” Jill said.

Jill and Megan’s relationship blossomed during Megan’s final year of schooling.

A tradition at Megan’s school was the Grade 12 ‘Pink Day’ to celebrate the last day of classes, an event Megan had looked forward to since starting high school. When the day arrived, Megan was in Intensive Care, too sick to attend.

Jill planned a surprise ‘pink tea party’ for Megan in the hospital. It was the first time she’d seen her friends and grandad since starting her stem cell treatment.

“When you have such a strong, passionate young woman going through some of the most challenging treatments, it breaks your heart when they miss milestones like that,” Jill said.
QSuper’s partnership with Juiced TV gives children and their families within Queensland hospitals the opportunity to both acknowledge and thank their dedicated healthcare heroes.

Jill is one of many Super Heroes helping young people feel empowered during their hospital experience. If you have a Super Hero at the hospital, help us to give them the recognition they deserve by nominating them for Juiced TV’s Super Hero Awards.
